How to Link Itineraries Together

If you have created multiple itineraries for one trip, you might want to link those itineraries together so people can see all of them.  You can do this by adding links to your itineraries through the suggestions section of your itinerary.

Let's say, for example, that you created three itineraries on your trip to Paris: One for your entire trip to Paris that lasted at least a few days and included stages for the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, Notre Dame cathedral, and the Champs Elysees.  Let's say that, on the same trip, you created a separate itinerary for your trip around the Louvre with stages that were all inside the museum, and you also created a separate itinerary for your walk down the Champs Elysees.  When you prepare these itineraries for viewing, you may want to link your itineraries for the Louvre and the Champs Elysees to your overall itinerary for your Paris trip.

This is very easy to do!  First, go to the itinerary you want linked to your other itinerary.  For example, if you want your itinerary for the Louvre linked to the stage for the Louvre on your Paris itinerary, go to your Louvre itinerary.  In the upper right corner of the itinerary, there is a link that says "Link."  Click on it (next to the red arrow below).

When you click on that, a box will show up with a URL in it (next to the red arrow below).  That is the URL you will use to link to this itinerary.  Highlight it and copy it.

Then, go to the itinerary you'd like to link this to.  To stay with our example, go to your Paris itinerary.  When you edit the stage for the Louvre, go down to where it says "Suggestions" and click "Add" (next to the red arrow below).

Then, a box will show up over your stage.  It will ask you to describe your suggestion.  Title it the title of the itinerary you're linking to this stage (arrow number 1 below), add a description (arrow number 2 below), and paste the link from your other itinerary into the link field (arrow number 3 below). When you are finished, click "Save" (arrow number 4 below).

Then, click save on this stage of your itinerary, and voila!  Your itineraries are linked!

Safe travels!

How to Work on Multiple Itineraries in the iPhone App

The Witur iPhone app allows you to work on multiple itineraries at once. That is, imagine you are visiting Paris for a couple of weeks. Most likely, you may want to have an overall itinerary where every stage corresponds to a day, and then, if during a day you do something interesting you may also want to create a new itinerary describing all the details. For example, while at Paris, you may want to create an itinerary about your visit to the entire city, but at the same time, create an itinerary dedicated to the Louvre, and one dedicated just to the cathedrals in the city, etc. After you have created an itinerary and saved it on your phone, from the main screen, tap on Start New Itinerary.

You can create the new itinerary in the same way that you created the other itinerary.  Then, whenever you want to switch itineraries, go to the main screen of the app and tap on Select Saved Itinerary and you will get the following screen:

Simply select the itinerary you want to work on and keep adding new stages or editing unpublished ones.  You can publish these stages to show your friends and family what you're up to on your trip, and you can keep all of the itineraries on the phone so you can work on them all at the same time!

If you have any questions about how to use the iPhone app, try the Help menu first.  If you can't find what you're looking for there, put a comment here or e-mail support@witur.com.

Witur's New Search Feature

As you have probably seen, Witur is changing its look and we are working to make it easier for you to find the excellent, user-generated itineraries that are on the site.  Now, with the help of Witur's new main page, you can easily search to find just what you're looking for.

If you go to Witur.com, you'll notice a new screen like the one below:

On this screen, you will notice that there are icons for different types of itineraries: Cultural, Travel Diary, Sports, Walking Tour, Nature, Gastronomic, Shopping, and Adventure.  There is also a search box so you can search for itineraries in a particular city, as well.  Let's try clicking on these icons, first.  Let's say you just wanted to browse all of the Cultural itineraries in the entire world.  Click on the Cultural icon, and you will be taken to a screen like the one below:

Not only do you see a map with all of the cultural itineraries listed, but you see a list of all of those itineraries, as well, to the left of the map.  You can click on as many of the icons on the top of the window as you want.  For example, if you wanted Cultural and Travel Diary itineraries, you can click on those two icons and, when highlighted, you will be shown all of those types of itineraries.

From here, you can click on itineraries from the list, or you can hover your mouse over an icon on the map and a bubble will pop up over the map showing you the title of the itinerary, the picture, a piece of the summary, the user who created the itinerary, and the duration of the itinerary.  You can see an example of this below:

If you like what you see of this itinerary as you hover over it, you can click on the title in the bubble (next to the red arrow below) and you will be taken to that itinerary page.

You can also zoom in on any portion of the map, just like you would in Google Maps by using the slide bar to the left of the map, next to arrow 1 below.  Once you zoom in, a "Refresh" button will appear (next to arrow 2 below).  If you click it, it will refresh the map to show the itineraries in the area you've zoomed to.

If you would like to constrain your search for itineraries to a particular city, you can enter a city name next to the red arrow below and click search.

When you search for a particular city, you will be taken to a page that shows only the itineraries in that city.  When you get to that page, you can select the types of itineraries you'd like to see by highlighting the icons above the map, just like you did before.  Below is an example of a search for Walking Tours in Barcelona, Spain.

With Witur's new search features, you can be as specific or as general in your search as you like.  You can search by type of itinerary and/or city as you saw above.  You can also search by username (arrow 1 below), so if you know you like itineraries by certain users, you can search for itineraries he or she has created.  You can select a duration from the drop down menu next to arrow 2 below, and you can select your language from the drop down menu next to arrow 3 below.  When you get your results, you can select how many itineraries you'd like to view at a time by sliding the icon on the bar next to arrow number 4 below.  Sliding it to the left will show you fewer itineraries per page, and sliding it to the right will show you more itineraries per page.  You can also go to further pages of itineraries by going to the bottom of the window and selecting which number page you'd like to view.

One more feature we'd like you to be aware of.  If you highlight the Grid icon next to the red arrow below, you can see a grid of the world and how many itineraries there are in each area.

The grid looks like the window below, and from here you can click on an area of the map to be taken to the itineraries in that area.

With all of these options, it is almost impossible not to be able to find exactly what you're looking for from Witur!

Safe travels!

How To Create An Itinerary From The Web

We've shown you before that you can create an itinerary from your iPhone or Android phone, but did you know that you can also create an itinerary from the web?  Well, you can, and we're going to show you how!

First, go to http://www.witur.com and log in using your e-mail and password.  Then, click on the "Create" tab, next to the red arrow below.

This will take you to a screen that will ask you to compose the itinerary summary.  This is the first thing that people searching for itineraries will see, so be as specific as you'd like!  You can see an example of this screen below.

You need to give your itinerary a title under "Name the Itinerary," then write a summary of your itinerary under "Summarize your Itinerary."  Decide whether or not you would like your itinerary to be public or private, choose a language for your itinerary, select a category from the dropdown list, and upload a picture.  You can see how we've filled out an example of a summary below.

When you are finished with your example summary, click "Save."  This will take you to your itinerary page, where you can add stages.  To begin adding stages, click on the "Add stages" button, shown next to the red arrow below.

Next, you will be taken to a screen for a new stage.  This looks similar to the itinerary summary page, but is just for one stage of your trip.  First, ender the name of your stage.  Then, describe what you did at this stage.  After that, you need to locate your stage on the map.  You can enter search terms and search for the location of this stage if you choose to locate it automatically.  If you locate it manually, you need to enter the address of your stage.  Then, upload a picture of this stage and choose how long you have spent there.  A completed example can be seen below.

When you're satisfied with your stage, click "Save."  This will take you back to the itinerary page, seen below.  You can add any number of stages you like by clicking "Add stages" on this page and entering information the same way.  When you're totally finished with the itinerary, click "Finish," which can be seen next to the red arrow below.

After you click "Finish," you will be taken to your itinerary.  This is what people see when they search for your itinerary and select it to view.  You can see an example of this below.

But what if you clicked "Finish" and you realize you forgot a stage?  You can still edit your itinerary from the web.  First, click on the "My Witur" tab.  This will bring up a list of all of your itineraries.  Then, locate the itinerary you would like to edit.  Click on the "Edit" link underneath the itinerary picture, as seen next to the red arrow below.

This will take you back to the edit phase of your itinerary.  Here, you can edit stages, delete stages, and add more stages to your itinerary.

Don't forget to click "Finish" when you're done editing your itinerary!

Safe travels!
