Witur's New FAQ

Have you ever found yourself with questions about Witur and not known were to find the answers?  Well your search is over!

At Witur, our goal is to make your experience with this site as good as possible, and in order to do that, we decided to create this blog as a way of spreading news and informing users how to utilize all of the great features on the site.  However, if you had a specific question about something on the site, it was probably difficult to find the answer to just the question you were looking for.  Therefore, we created an FAQ site linked directly to Witur.com. (You can see it next to the red arrow below.)

When you click on the FAQ link, you will be taken to a page with questions about the site, and each question will link you to the answer you're looking for!

Witur Has A New Look!

If you've visited Witur.com lately, you've probably noticed that the itineraries have a new look!  The old features are there, but there are a few new features that we think you're really going to love.  Let's check out the features, shall we?

1. Now, you can see a map of the entire itinerary in the upper right corner.  This will give you an idea of where the itinerary starts and finishes, and where it goes in between.

2. Another new feature is that you are able to see all of the stages right on one page of the itinerary.  Click on these pictures or the arrows at either end of the picture line to move to another stage of the itinerary.

3. You can now see all the stage pictures or all the itinerary pictures by clicking on the links underneath the picture in the upper left of the page.  This will bring up a window that will allow you to browse all of the pictures at once.

4. Now, you can get walking or driving directions between the stages!  Before, the map would draw straight lines between the stages (and you can still get that by selecting "No directions"), but now you can choose your method of transportation between the stages and get the appropriate maps to guide you on your way.

5. Of course, the stage description is still in the same place.  You need that to know what the stage is about!

6.  The suggestions can also be found in the same place on the itinerary.

We'd love to know what you think about the new and improved look of the Witur itineraries!  Is there anything you're happy to see?  Anything you'd like to see implemented?  Leave a comment or e-mail support@witur.com!

Safe travels!

Featured Itineraries - Charity Walks

Last year, I signed up to use Witur for the first time to live-map (or Witurcast, as we decided to call it) my experience with the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer.  This was my fifth walk, and I had been looking for a way to update my friends and family in real time about where I was and how I was doing.  Witur provided the perfect format for me to do this.  Using my iPhone, I was able to snap pictures and enter brief descriptions as we went, as well as feed this information to Twitter and Facebook for all of my friends and family to see.  The result was this itinerary, here - almost all 39.3 miles over two days were shown to my friends as I walked them.

All of my family and friends told me after the walk how cool it was to know exactly where I was and when I got there.  They were virtually cheering me on, and it was really great from my end, too, to see all of their comments and encouragement right on my phone!

Updating friends and family while on charity walks is a great idea.  Not only are you passing along valuable information, but you're letting them in on a little bit of this powerful and emotional experience.  I know I will definitely be using Witur to Witurcast my Avon Walk for Breast Cancer this year!

If you're doing a charity walk, consider using Witur from your mobile phone to update your friends and family on your experience.  And if you decide to do this, let us know!  We'd love to feature your charity and your walk on this site!

How to Rearrange Stages on an Itinerary

Have you ever created an itinerary and later realized that the stages were not in the correct order?  Well, now, you can rearrange your stages right from the Edit Itinerary page!

To do this, first you must log in.  Then, click on the "My Witur" tab (next to the red arrow below).

This will open up a page with all of your itineraries on it.  From here, find the itinerary with the stages you would like to rearrange.  Once you do that, click on the "Edit" link underneath the itinerary title (next to the red arrow below).

Then, you will be taken to the Edit Itinerary page.  You will notice that there are blue circles with white arrows to the right of each stage (next to the red bracket labeled 1 below).  If you click on those arrows, your stages will move up or down, depending on the arrow you choose!  When you're finished rearranging your stages, be sure to click "Finish" (next to the red arrow labeled 2 below) to save your changes!

Easy as 1, 2, 3!  Now you can take comfort knowing that, even if you enter the stages in the wrong order, this problem is easily corrected.

Safe travels!

Unlimited pictures per stage with Flickr

Over the last months we have received many requests to remove the 1 picture per stage limit. We are happy to announce that starting today you will be able to use as many pictures as you want with your stages. Furthermore, to make things even easier, you will be able to connect to your Flickr account directly from Witur to select pictures from your public sets. This way, you can leverage all your existing Flickr pictures and avoid long uploads.

Let us show you how to use this new feature.

1. Connect your Flickr account with Witur
Sign in to your Witur account and go to "My Witur". In the upper right corner panel you will see the Flickr logo and a link to its right with the text "Connect Now". Click on the link to get started with the connection process.
2. Login to your Yahoo! account
The connection between Witur and Flickr requires that you allow Witur to access your Flickr pictures.
Simply enter your login and password and wait until the authorization page appears. Note that if you are already signed in to Flickr, you won't see this page and will be directed to the following page (Section 3).

If you are concerned about privacy, let us tell you that Witur does not store your Flickr username and password.
3. Authorize Witur to access your Flickr pictures
If you want to access your Flickr pictures from Witur you will need to give us permission to do so. We will only access your account when you select the pictures that you want to use with Witur stages. We won't access your account in any other case.

Click on the "OK, I'LL AUTHORIZE IT" button.
After you authorize Witur, you will be redirected to our Witur site and you should see the following page.
If you get an error message, make sure that the username and password that you entered for your Flickr account are correct and start over the process.

4. Add Flickr pictures to your Witur stage
You are now connected to Flickr and therefore it is time to attach as many pictures as you want to your Witur itineraries. It is actually really easy.

We will show you how to add pictures to an existing stage. However, the process is exactly the same for newly created stages.

Go to "My Witur" and select an existing itinerary. Choose the stage you want to add more pictures to and click on the "edit" link. See how at the bottom of the panel there is a Flickr logo with a label next to it displaying the number of pictures you have selected. It should say 0 (unless you have added pictures before). Go ahead and click on the Flickr logo
5. Select pictures from Flickr
We have created a customized dialog to simplify the process of selecting, listing, and editing the pictures you have selected from Flickr.
On the left you will get a list of all your public Flickr sets. Note that only public sets are listed, so make sure that you set the permissions right at Flickr.

Click on a set and we will display thumbnails for all the pictures in the set. If you want to see the picture in more detail, click on it and it will appear on the right-most panel. If you want to select a picture, simply click on the "Select" link and it will be listed in the bottom panel (Selected Pictures)
If you decide you want to remove a picture from the stage, simply go to the Selected Pictures panel and click on the "Remove" link.

Once you are done, push the "Save" button and the pictures in the Selected Pictures panel will be associated to your stage
See how the label next to the Flickr logo updates itself and displays the number of pictures selected (3 for the example). Again, there is no limit on how many pictures you can use.

How to Link Itineraries Together

If you have created multiple itineraries for one trip, you might want to link those itineraries together so people can see all of them.  You can do this by adding links to your itineraries through the suggestions section of your itinerary.

Let's say, for example, that you created three itineraries on your trip to Paris: One for your entire trip to Paris that lasted at least a few days and included stages for the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, Notre Dame cathedral, and the Champs Elysees.  Let's say that, on the same trip, you created a separate itinerary for your trip around the Louvre with stages that were all inside the museum, and you also created a separate itinerary for your walk down the Champs Elysees.  When you prepare these itineraries for viewing, you may want to link your itineraries for the Louvre and the Champs Elysees to your overall itinerary for your Paris trip.

This is very easy to do!  First, go to the itinerary you want linked to your other itinerary.  For example, if you want your itinerary for the Louvre linked to the stage for the Louvre on your Paris itinerary, go to your Louvre itinerary.  In the upper right corner of the itinerary, there is a link that says "Link."  Click on it (next to the red arrow below).

When you click on that, a box will show up with a URL in it (next to the red arrow below).  That is the URL you will use to link to this itinerary.  Highlight it and copy it.

Then, go to the itinerary you'd like to link this to.  To stay with our example, go to your Paris itinerary.  When you edit the stage for the Louvre, go down to where it says "Suggestions" and click "Add" (next to the red arrow below).

Then, a box will show up over your stage.  It will ask you to describe your suggestion.  Title it the title of the itinerary you're linking to this stage (arrow number 1 below), add a description (arrow number 2 below), and paste the link from your other itinerary into the link field (arrow number 3 below). When you are finished, click "Save" (arrow number 4 below).

Then, click save on this stage of your itinerary, and voila!  Your itineraries are linked!

Safe travels!
