One of the best features of Witur is the ability to create and update an itinerary on the go. You can do this with either an iPhone or an Android phone (and you can find those apps by clicking on the links). In this particular post, you'll find directions for creating an itinerary on your iPhone. If you're interested in creating an itinerary on your Android phone, click here.
First, you need to download and install the app from the iTunes App Store. You can do this by clicking here. When you open the application, log in with your Witur account information, and you will be taken to this screen:
From this screen, you can press "My Travel Diary" to see a list of all of your itineraries you've ever created. You can press "My Messages" to see your Witur inbox. You can also start a new itinerary, select a saved itinerary, or edit your settings, find your current location, see the newest and most popular itineraries, or get help. Since this post is all about creating a new itinerary, let's press "Start new itinerary." When you do that, you will be taken to a screen that looks like this:
For this example, we created an itinerary that is all about visiting Paris, France. From this starting screen, you can enter a summary of your itinerary, which will be the first page people see when looking up your itinerary online. Where it says "Visiting Paris," that is where you enter the title of your itinerary. Under "Description," you can type a few sentences telling people about your trip overall. If you tap where the Eiffel Tower picture is next to the description, you can add a picture for the front page of your itinerary. You also must decide if you want your itinerary to be in English or Spanish, and whether or not it is private. You must make the itinerary public if you want your itinerary to be seen by other Witur users, friends, and family. If you make it private, only people to whom you send the link will be able to see the itinerary. Finally, choose a category from your itinerary from the rolling menu in the bottom half of the screen. Once you choose all of these settings, press "Save" in the top, right corner of the screen. You will be taken back to the front screen, and your new itinerary will be there:
To start updating your itinerary, select "Add Stages" under your itinerary title. That will take you to a screen for you to add a stage:
On this screen, you need to add a title for your stage at the top of the screen, and you can add a description of the stage as well as a picture. This picture can be taken right from within the app, or you can choose to upload an already existing picture from your phone. You can then use the sliding bar on the bottom of the screen to show how long you spent at that stage. The location accuracy section tells you how close Witur will get to your actual location on the map. If it says "Bad," just wait a few seconds until it changes to "Fair," "Good," or "Excellent. The higher the rating, the closer the app will get to your actual location. If you check later and the location isn't quite right, you can always change it from the website.
Once you're finished with your stage, press "Save and Next" on the top right of the screen. This will take you to a screen for a new stage. You can either add a new stage or, if you're not quite ready to do that yet, you can press "Discard and Exit" at the top left of the screen. The blank stage will be discarded, but the stage you just created will be saved locally to your phone. Either button will take you back to the main screen:
Now, you can see that there is one stage that you've just created, and that stage is unpublished. This means that no one can see this stage yet. If you are ready to publish your stage (or stages) so people can see them, tap "Options." This will bring up this menu:
From here, you can publish the stages so people can view them, you can edit the stages you've created that haven't been published yet, or you can delete the entire itinerary from your iPhone. If you select "Edit Unpublished Stages," you will be taken to a list of all the unpublished stages of your current itinerary.
From this list, you can select "Edit" from the top right of the screen. This will allow you to delete a stage all together without deleting the entire itinerary. To delete the stage, select the red circle as seen below:
If you don't want to delete the stage, but you just want to edit it, don't push the "Edit" button, simply touch the stage you want to edit. You will be brought back to the stage screen. From there, you can edit any part of the stage:
When you're finished, select "Update." Then, you'll be taken back to the home screen. From there, select "Options," then "Publish." The app will show you the progress of publishing the data:
When you've published the data, you will be able to see the itinerary from "My Travel Diary" and your friends and family will be able to see your progress through your trip! You can use these steps to create as many stages as you wish.
Witur allows you to work on multiple itineraries at once. That is, imagine you are visiting Paris for a couple of weeks. Most likely, you may want to have an overall itinerary where every stage corresponds to a day, and then, if during a day you do something interesting you may also want to create a new itinerary describing all the details. For example, while at Paris, you may want to create an itinerary about the Louvre. From the main screen, tap on Start New Itinerary. Then, whenever you want to switch itineraries, tap on Select Saved Itinerary and you will get the following screen:
Simply select the itinerary you want and keep adding new stages or editing unpublished ones.
If you have any questions about how to use the iPhone app, try the Help menu first. If you can't find what you're looking for there, put a comment here or e-mail support@witur.com.
Safe travels!
